How has fatherhood changed in recent decades?

by | Sep 3, 2018 | Fathers' Rights

If you are a dad in Indiana who is facing an impending divorce, you are likely worried about your children and how much time you will be able to have with them once you are divorced. During this process, it will be important for you to hold tight to the knowledge that you as a father are essential to your children’s well-being so that you work to secure time with your children both during and after your divorce.

Pew Research Center reported on some trends in fatherhood that emphasize how different men themselves view this role and even how society has come to change its view of dads and their importance to kids. One interesting fact of note is that a study conducted two years ago found that 45 percent of people believed men were able to provide a level of care equal to children equal to that of women.

In 2015, 58 percent of women said that motherhood was central to their identities. In the same study, 57 percent of men said the same thing about fatherhood showing how dads today are stepping more fully into these roles. Compared to 1965, men spend two and a half times the number of weekly hours on household chores and almost three times the number of weekly hours on childcare.

This information is not intended to provide legal advice but is instead meant to provide divorcing fathers in Indiana some support in pursuing their full rights with their kids by highlighting how fatherhood has changed over the years.
