The importance of dads in kids’ well-being

by | Oct 14, 2018 | Fathers' Rights

Society today seems to be growing in its understanding of the importance of fathers in their children’s lives. No longer are moms seen as the only important parent for kids. Yet, there are still some gaps when it comes to understanding exactly how and why dads may make such a difference in their children’s lives.

Healthline reported that a study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics found that the involvement of a dad contributed to greater exploration and independence for children. They also gave children a strong sense of security and comfort.

According to Focus on the Family, a National Marriage Project research study found that one element contributing to the increased independence was how men tended to wait longer before rushing to soothe a young child, thereby encouraging them to soothe themselves. This is also linked to an increased ability on the part of children to learn how to solve problems. The research also found that when it comes to the social and academic success of a child and their overall happiness and well-being, the presence of a nurturing and loving father was just as important as was the presence of a nurturing and loving mother.

Men and women naturally approach situations differently and allowing both to be involved in raising their children gives kids a broader set of examples and expands their social experiences. Men may also play more physically with children. They also often support competition more than women and competition is an important factor in society.
